Vicente Del Bosque has refused to make a statement about his future as the manager of the Spanish national football team. According to him, he would reach a conclusion only after having a chat with the president of the association. Till then, he has nothing to say in that regard.
Spain’s campaign in the FIFA World Cup 2014 ended tomorrow and it was nothing less than a disaster for them. They didn’t manage to play like defending champions at all. They got humiliated in their very first game in the tournament against Netherlands. They were crushed to 1-5 defeat in that game.
After having such a day first up in a World tournament, it’s difficult for any team to bounce back, but, the Spaniards, being the defending champions, were expected to show character and came out firing on all cylinders in their next game against Chile, but, it wasn’t to be. There was not much improvement in their game against Chile either and they ended up suffering another defeat by 0-2.
That defeat made sure that Spain would not go ahead in the tournament and the rumours started getting spread that Vicente Del Bosque would be handed axe after his return.
But, in their last game against Australia, the Spanish team restored some pride. They secured a comfortable 3-0 win and gave their fans something to be happy about.
Now, this Australia win might just save Del Bosque from sacking. His performance will definitely be analyzed, but, he might be able to get away.
When asked about his future as the Spain boss, Del Bosque said, “It would be inappropriate to say anything without having a discussion with the president. Let me return and discuss things with him and then, only, I will have something to say about this.”
