Former Premier League star Tim Sherwood has fancied Thiago Alcantara to make the switch to Liverpool before the international transfer window closes next month. The Spain international has declined to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich beyond the 2020/21 campaign and the club are keen on offloading him rather than losing him on a free next summer.
He told Sky Sports: “Thiago is a player they are not going to find through their academy at this present moment in time, and he would help them out immensely. He is a fantastic technician. I don’t think he is going to be signing a new contract at Bayern, so I think there is a realistic chance they would get him before the window closes.”
The Premier League holders have experienced a quiet transfer window and they have made just one signing in the form of left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos. They were fancied to make more purchases earlier in the year, but it appears that the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic has changed their transfer plans for the summer.
As things stand, they don’t appear in a position to meet the transfer demands of Bayern and may need to recoup funds from player sales. The likes of Marko Grujic, Harry Wilson and Georginio Wijnaldum have been fancied to head through the exit door. Wijnaldum has been a key player for the Reds, but he has turned down a new contract beyond June 2021 amid the interest from Barcelona.
