David de Gea is the unquestionable main goal-keeper of Manchester United, one of the top clubs in the Premier League and at the age of 25, he is already making his way in the Spanish national team which is an impressive feat for a player who is at such a young age.
Iker Casillas used to be the one the stars of the Spanish national side but as the years have been rolling; his importance has been diminishing as well. He still continues being an important player as he has playing time in many matches but David de Gea is starting to get center stage.
The 25 year old star of Manchester United was placed in the main team of Spain during their latest Euro’s 2016 match as they faced off with Ukraine and came out on top with a 1-0 triumph. In this game David de Gea was one of the standout players as the Spanish player made a number of world class saves which kept his team in the game and it would have been a completely different story if it hadn’t been for David de Gea who made one of the best performances that he has ever done with his national team.
The head coach of the Spanish national team, Vicente del Bosque himself has said that Iker Casillas is not guaranteed to have a starting role in his team even though he has been the captain of the national team for the past few years.
“Nobody is guaranteed a place here. We have players in mind, but there is no definitive list.
Will Casillas be there or not? I hope so. But there are still some months left and we will act as we see fit. But if he’s there it will be because of his prestige, his career, what he means for the national team and because he plays for a big club’’
“He hasn’t stopped playing and he’s not inactive. He’s playing. And I speak about Casillas because you asked me about him, but not because he is any different to any other players in other teams.” Spain’s Vicente del Bosque said.
Truth be told, David de Gea does deserve to get more chances in the Spanish national team as his performances continue being top notch and Iker Casillas hasn’t been at the same level that he used to be and David de Gea has proven to be the worthy of following the legacy of Iker Casillas.
